Zimbabwean international and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Blessing Muzarabani has received a significant blow. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), under Mohsin Naqvi, has announced a two-year ban on Muzarabani from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The ban comes as Muzarabani withdrew from PSL 2026, where he was set to play for Islamabad United, to commit to playing for KKR in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. This decision to prioritize the IPL over the PSL led to the PCB’s action.
PCB’s Official Statement on Blessing Muzarabani’s Ban
«Professionalism in franchise-based leagues requires participants to act with transparency and consistency. Entering into a conflicting engagement while a prior binding agreement subsists represents a departure from the expected standards of the game,» the PCB stated.
«Such conduct, if left unaddressed, erodes the reliability of dealings and the confidence that franchises, regulators, and stakeholders place in professional engagements. The two-year ban reflects the gravity of the breach,» the statement further elaborated.
Kolkata Knight Riders Signed Blessing Muzarabani as a Replacement
The Kolkata-based franchise secured the services of the Zimbabwean pacer as a replacement for the Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman. Reports indicate that Muzarabani terminated his contract with Islamabad United after being approached by an IPL team.
The PCB took a firm stance on this matter, imposing a two-season ban on the bowler. A similar situation occurred in the previous season with South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch, who also terminated his PSL contract to play in the IPL.
Before the 2025 season, Bosch was contracted with Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL draft. However, when Mumbai Indians (MI) expressed interest in the pace-bowling all-rounder, Bosch opted out of PSL 2025 to join MI as a replacement player for the injured Lizaad Williams. Following this incident, the PCB imposed a one-year ban on the Protea cricketer from playing in the Pakistan Super League.
Spencer Johnson and Dasun Shanaka Also Withdrew from PSL 2026 Deals
In addition to Blessing Muzarabani, two other players, Australian pacer Spencer Johnson and Sri Lankan international Dasun Shanaka, have also withdrawn from their PSL 2026 commitments to participate in the IPL 2026 season. It remains to be seen if the PCB will take any action against these players as well.
